Professional Louvre photography shoot – setting the scene
A client of mine called recently with a freshly completed job of theirs. They needed some professional photography of the Orakei based job which is around 10km to the east of Aucklands CBD. The client sells and instals high quality louvre roofs for decks. In this particular job, there were multiple instals at the same address. The address includes a collection of new appartments which point back towards the Auckland city skyline overlooking the waters of Hobson Bay. Plus of-course, they all have louvres…

Shoot preparation – time of day
The client viewed this as a high end site for their marketing. They needed images that would show the quality of their work and make their louvres look their absolute best. To make this happen I proposed that we capture both day photographs and dusk images of the louvres.
Day shoots
The day images were needed to show the louvres providing shade. Additionally, they would use the louvres to frame the amazing views from the properties. With this in mind I chose a time to start the shoot so that the sun would be in the best position to give good light to both the louvres and the views. It was a little tricky to work the time in with the different apartment owners. However, we finally settled on a time that worked best for most of the owners. Only the penthouse couldn’t let us in on the same day. So we booked in a seperate day for this since the views are obviously the best from there.
Dusk shoots
The dusk images were important for a couple of reasons. Reason one the louvres have built in lighting. We wanted to make images that showed this looking great. Secondly it would enable me to capture images of the louvres and the city views with the sun going down over the Auckland city skyline.

Weather…
The weather was the third consideration and proved to be a little tricky. The first few booked in days turned out to be unsuitable due to poor weather. Thankfully the client and the apartment owners worked in with me as I delayed the shoot. I waited until conditions were favourable to producing the best images possible for the client.
The result – a collection of images that the client was thrilled with
We came away with a bunch of great images for the client. They were wrapped with the photos and at the end of the day thats the most important thing to me as professional photographer. The clients needs are not met, they are blown out of the fricken water 🙂
Heres a few more of the images I captured across the three visits.
I love the image below from the dusk shoot. Straight on for a modern photographic feel and beautiful soft light from the louvre lights and the available light from the sun which had just dipped below the horizon.

The following three images are of the same appartments deck, each shot slightly differently to give the client some variety to make sure they have images which fit into different areas of their marketing.
Straight on for a modern feel,

Angled showing a little of the interior of the apartment helps to show how louvres increase the feel of a rooms floorspace.

Moving the camera out onto the deck helps to show the effect of opening the louvre blades.

This photograph shows the flow from the interior of the apartment through to the deck and louvres from one of the lower levels. It required lighting the interior of the apartment to match in with the bright outdoor light on the deck.

The way that the louvres connect to the house and fireplace was important to the client so I searched out a shot that showed the connection while also showing the views.

Another photograph designed to show the flow from the penthouse interior out to the deck and Auckland city skyline.

Three images to show the vertical blinds built into the louvres, up, down, and part way.

Too many images? I feel like I may have included too many in the post. There were more captured for the client but I have to draw the blog post to an end at some stage. The client was really happy with the images which is always my greatest goal when completing any shoot for a client.
Heres some more architectural shoots I have completed for clients around Auckland and beyond:
- Food and hotel photography for Rydges Auckland

So there you go. A rather long post but hopefully it shows how a typical shoot rolls out from start to finish for my architectural photography clients. If its for louvres, or any other architectural aspect I go out of my way to produce a selection of quality images for my clients. If you have a recently completed project that needs to be showcased with some show stopping professional photography, get in touch below and we can start the process.
