Black surfaces for interior photography can be tricky, so when I walked into this stunning kitchen in Ponsonby Auckland I knew I needed a little extra time to get the shots required. Lighting black or dark surfaces brings out the challenge of reflections in those surfaces so additional time was definitely spent finding positions for my lights that lit the kitchen in the ways each shot needed, but that didn’t also create ugly or distracting reflections in the surfaces that make this kitchen so strikingly stunning.
I was commissioned to photograph this kitchen by Panelform, they produce the panels which make up the kitchen so I needed to show each of the panels and the differing textures on each of them. To show the textures light placement is needed to create the light and shadow that accentuate the textures so light placement was doubly important both to show the texture, and not create any reflections.
I liked the contrast of the white stools against the dark panels but at the same time it was important not to hide too much of the panels, this was for Panelform after all so showing their product was one of the top parts of the photographic brief.
If you need some interior photography weather its in Ponsonby Auckland or somewhere else in the region drop me a message, I’d love to help.
Heres a link for a blog post of another kitchen I photographed in Auckland, and wait for it…, this ones mainly white
There are other posts on the blog page with interior images I have captured around the Auckland region, this is a nice one which includes some kitchen images along with some externals or a beautiful deck at dusk.
And thats it for this kitchen, let me know if you have an interior project you have completed recently and want to show off to potential clients. Id love to capture some photographs of it for you no matter where it is based, Ponsonby, Auckland, or further away.
