Cook book photography for a client making a book for her children?
I recently completed some photography for a client who is in the process of creating a cook book. She is creating the book for her soon to leave home children. A bit of a different target market for a cook book but hang in there with me.
The clients children were all in the process of leaving home as they moved off to study away from Auckland. Her aim was to create something special that would help them to eat healthily, and take a little bit of home with them. The book includes all of their favourite recipes along with images that will hopefully excite her children to cook the dishes for themselves and their flatmates.
Variety and simple styling
Everything from mains to biscuits, jams to pickles, and of course some deserts were photographed for the cook book. All of the images were created in the family dinning room which was right alongside the kitchen. I was able to set up my backgrounds, lighting, and other equipment right along side the kitchen. This made everything run seamlessly and we were able to create a good variety of great photography for the cook book. One of the clients long time friends was a food stylist so she came along to help out. The styling was kept simple, the food is meant to be the hero and to give the cook book a homely real feel from the photography.
Cook book photography with soul
The family has an obvious love of cooking and has a great collection of recipes created, and collected by various generations. Because of this we used a lot of the families personal items as props in the photography for the cook book. Items such as the trays and dishes the food is photographed on, old photographs and cook books were utilised to give the images more meaning for the family.
Additional photography from the cook book shoot
There were so many fantastic dishes we photographed for the cook book. Here are a few more of the images to give you a good idea of the photography we created for the cook book.
As you can see the food and images we were able to create for the cook book were fantastic. I really enjoyed working on this project and cant wait to see the finished result of the cook book with all of the photography filling the pages. I hope the kids really enjoy the book and get great use from it when making that big move away from home. What a great idea she had to do this. I’m sure it will be something that lives on for the next generation of her family to treasure.
Hungry?
Hungry yet? I am but that could be because its after lunchtime as I finish this cook book photography post off.
If there is a cook book project you have in mind I would love to help you create some photography to show off your recipes, as you can hopefully tell its something I really enjoy doing. But who wouldn’t right, I mean there is always spare food afterwards…, kidding I just love creating images which help people to tell their story, and make their food shine. If theres anything I can do to help you with your cook book photography needs drop me a line, I’d love to help.
